Please help a fellow skater with his Roots Remix contest! [19 Nov 2008|12:42pm]

thesalivasurfer

Clicking the above image will direct you to a page containing my entry into The Roots "Criminal" Remix Contest.

The determination of winners for this first round is really lame (didn't realize this until after the fact); basically a self-promo battle for votes. I guess the judges didn't want to have to listen to 310 remixes to determine what was actually good. But I worked hard on my track and after listening to a ton of really mediocre/bad entries, am totally confident that mine is good enough to be in the top 25, so I'm giving this ridiculous spam battle a shot.

So please hook me up with a vote! Just click the link above and press "vote for me" on the page you are redirected to. Then, if I make it to the top 25 I can actually compete in a legitimate remix competition.

The top 25 finalists will advance to Round 2. For Round 2, The Roots will make another track from Rising Down available to be remixed by the 25 finalists, and thankfully there will be 3 judges making the final decision.

I need to be in the top 25 by the end of the day on Friday to make it to the next round. Many thanks in advance to all the generous people willing to lend me a hand!

Peace!

P.S. If any of you feel like helping me out and passing this along, posting it on your blog, whatever outlets you might have, I'd reeeeeally appreciate it. I'm trying to re-harness any self-promo mojo I might have possessed in the past but I could definitely use the help!

What's up. Just letting you all know that if you're wanting to buy skate, surf & snowboard shirts for a fraction of the cost in stores, I sell them worldwide on ebay, all sizes. I also sell off of ebay too for $8 a shirt. Check out my auctions by clicking the photo or just write me the size you're intersted in and I can show you what shirts and hoodies I have in that size at the moment.

I start all auctions off at $9.99. This particular auction shown below sold for $21 and retails around $160. So yeah, definitely check em out!

Barbeque Grill Cover, Why Get One? [07 Jul 2008|06:07pm]
frakia09

You have invested some money in your grill and now you need to protect that investment. One of the first ways that you can accomplish this is to buy a bbq grill cover. This is one item that you will defiantly want purchase but, if you are not sure why, "let me count the ways" that it can help maintain your grill.

Why Should You Get One?

As you begin using your grill, you will become very attached to the unit and what it can do to a nice piece of steak or a couple of pounds of sausage. And, you will probably become very protective of this "cooking appliance". Here are some of the ways that a cover can help protect your grill:

1. It will keep the natural elements off of the grill. Depending on where you live in this country, your grill will probably be exposed to the great outdoors. As such, it will be subject to the different types of weather that will pass its way. A good cover will keep the wind, rain, snow and sun off of the unit.

2. It will keep the "critters" off of our grill. You will be placing fresh meat on the grill. I do not know about you, but, I don't like the idea of animals crawling around on my cooking surface. The place where that expensive steak will be placed. Some people think that they clean the grill by searing it before cooking. But, I just don't like the thought of the local squirrel or rat crawling on that grate before I begin to cook on it.

3. Your cooking utensils will be protected. Depending on what type of cooking you do, you will be using a number of utensils. These will include thermometers, thongs, forks and the like. A cover will help these items from sprouting legs and traveling.

Of The Many Types Available, Which Will You Use?

Probably the most important consideration about the type of cover to purchase will be the weather.

If your weather is normally very mild and stable, the type of cover you need will be more along the line of a shade cover. This can be accomplished by getting a plastic, cloth or reinforced plastic cover. These can be found at the local hardware store.

If you may be expecting weather that will have wide temperature or moisture swings, you may want to consider a more secure grill cover. This may even be a custom fit tarpaulin. If that is the case, you may need to contact a tent maker or someone that makes boat covers to find a quality cover.

Probably the biggest thing that you need to keep in mind when considering getting a cover for your grill is the amount of your investment. If you have only purchased a "lil smokey", you will not need a cover. But, if you have gone to the other extreme of a cooking environment on a trailer, you may be looking for a professionally designed and manufactured cover.

So, if you have invested a good amount of time and/or money in your outdoor cooking equipment, I would suggest investing in a quality grill cover.

De-Bug Your Dinner [01 Jul 2008|03:07pm]
frakia09

Worried about your family contracting food-borne illnesses? We suggest these food shopping strategies that'll keep your family away from them.

POULTRY

If you're buying fresh chicken, it calls for extra caution. And if it's frozen, if the package isn't cold to the touch, find one that is. (Better yet, go to another shop that stores their food better!) Next, check the hue of the hen. In fresh chicken, a colour more brown than pink signifies the bacterial and chemical changes wrought by poor refrigeration.

SHELLFISH

Keep your shellfish platter tasting great in more ways than one. And that means, keeping the bacteria out! Take extra care when you go out and eat raw oysters. In fact, when eating raw oysters at restaurants, you're playing a game with lady luck. If you like to play safe, try and avoid it altogether. One great meal isn't worth a week or two of bad pain, a tummy ache and fever.

SEAFOOD

Here's your chance to play private detective. When you head to the market to stock up on your weekly dose of fish, look for fish positioned belly down in the display case - when fish is lying on its side, more surface area is exposed to bacteria that might breed underneath as the ice starts to melt and the juices begin to pool. As for the skin - the shinier, the better; if it's dull, avoid. If you want a truer test poke the fish. If the flesh bounces back to shape back rather than staying indented, it's good for dinner!

RAW MILK

If you buy your milk in tetrapacks, make sure that the package isn't puffy and bulbous-looking. And if it's fresh milk that you get every morning, make sure that you boil the same as soon as you get home and then refrigerate it. This can store for around 6 to 7 days. And if it isn't over after those many days, it's in your best interests to throw the milk out.

EGGS

Buy eggs that aren't cracked on the outside, and that aren't stored out in the daytime heat. That only furthers the chance that salmonella could have taken hold.

PRODUCE

Pass on fruits that look bruised or damaged in any way. They might look just a bit bruised on the outside, but you'd never know in what condition the inside of the fruit might be in.
